Today I Was Almost Killed :-(

Filed Under (Random Thoughts) by admin on 16-05-2010

Today I almost died a very bad death at none other than my house.  This is no joke.  It’s serious and I am lucky to not be dead.  Around 7pm Sunday I was mowing and weed whacking the lawn.  I had just started the edging alongside the driveway near where my truck was parked.  For a reason I don’t know I just happened to look up and notice a white car barreling toward me from across my front lawn.  The car had jumped the curb off the busy main road and came across the entire front lawn right in my direction.  The car nailed into my truck about 5 or so feet if not less from where I was.  The car became wedged onto my tailgate which just happened to be down because I had offloaded the mower some time before.  911 was called and the women who was driving her male passenger stated she sneezed a couple of times causing her to veer up onto my lawn and straight toward my location.  He apparently grabbed the steering wheel from her causing it to veer across the street and up onto my property.  Later on the cops thought that the real story may have been a result of the couple fighting.  Strangely the couple was very calm and the cops didn’t believe controlled substances were a cause.

Other than my tailgate being destroyed nobody was hurt.  My mom who happened to be over thought I might have been pinned under the vehicle.   If I had been just a couple more feet down the driveway and I would have been pinned into my truck by the runaway car.  I shall live another day.  Only ice cream and chocolate can help my nerves right now :(

Reality of Life

Author: Stephanie Clark

Life isn't just full of happiness,
It's sunsets, it's love, it's tears.
It's the thoughts of yesterdays memories,
That can wash away all out fears.

It's that very painful experience,
That each one of us has had.
It's the laughter that fills the air,
It's the tears when you are sad.

It's loving that someone special,
That at one time made you smile.
It's the pain of losing that person,
But the memories that make it worthwhile.

It's that child in every one of us,
Although in time we'll all be old.
It's the good times we'll never forget,
It's the memories we'll always hold.

It's the hug that we all need,
When we'd rather drown in our sorrow.
It's the hope in every one of us,
That makes us hold on for tomorrow.

Some New Paint Helps A Lot .. More House Updates

Filed Under (House) by admin on 11-05-2010

I decided to replace the aging mailbox on the front of the house with a new one and put new fresh numbers on it.  My other little task was to paint the concrete landing with special paint and spray paint the black railings after cleaning the rusty parts with a wire brush.  It actually turned out nice and things look a little bit more put together.  Just figured I would share a random house update.  Full speed ahead I guess….

The Random Post for the Week – 5/3-5/9

Was learning cursive in school really necessary?  When was the last time you actually used the art of cursive other than to sign your name on a legal document?   Over the years my signature has gotten worse with it  now being the equivalent of a couple of elongated lines barely resembling my name.  Everybody gives me grief about it but I have honestly forgotten the method to creating a lot of the characters.

If I asked you to write each and every letter in the alphabet in cursive do you think you would be able to do it?  My guess is probably not.

Installing New Door For Friend…Check

If you know me then you may also know that I enjoy doing projects and I don’t mind helping other out either.  One project I have never tackeled before is replacing a front door.  Well not anymore.  This time I took the show on the road to NE Philly and my coworker Rob’s house.  After 12 hours the door is finally with minimal work left to be done. A new screen door will also have to be put in but that is a lot simpler than the big main door.  It was humid and in the upper 80s but by 11:15pm the front door stood in all it’s glory leaving me sweaty, tired, and a little sore but otherwise the both of us were pleased with the outcome.  One of the hardest parts was just widening the existing opening for the new doorway with obstacles like stone and big blocks of existing framing wood in the way.  The tool of choice for most of it was reciprocating saw and hammer/chisel. We also had to mix up cement to fill in a couple of voids left from a pre-existing threshold that was sawed and chopped out.  I think at some point I may re-do my front door but I will definitely leave a full 2 days to finish it. Eh… maybe 3.
