Hey everyone! I realize have been neglecting the site however I am in the process of posting a bunch of items related to projects on the house. I actually just updated the About section a bit. Some of the projects include:

  • New Decorative Border Along Front Walkway Front Yard Areas
  • Planting New Bushes and Shrubs
  • Laying Concrete Foundation for new Stone Veneer Decorative Columns at Entrance
  • Installation of New Fence in Backround and Removal of Stumps
  • The First Post of the New Year .. Happenings and Tech Stuff

In what I am sure will turn out as the first post of many for the year 2011 I figured it would be good to say hi to the Interweb for a change.  Things have been kinda slow for the most part.  There are a number of projects I anticipate working on at the house and many surprises which I’m sure will crop up.  A couple of those will involve replacing the front door and also trying to landscape the front corner of the property.  With winter comes crappy outdoor conditions for any of these projects so the springtime cannot come soon enough.  The new truck is running great and it’s actually going to need its first oil change pretty soon.  Replacing the exhaust system with a new one by Magnaflow will be one of the first mods.  I am hoping to head to Puerto Rico this spring or summer with Vanessa.  It’s her hometown after all.  Having my own kick-arse tour guide will be supa-sweet.  High five.  Cats are good and are fatter than ever which is a good thing although I get woken up like clock work every morning by Hope who gets cranky and needs food.  Vazoom is rolling along pretty well and I am hoping to receive my official trademark registration from the U.S. Patent Office in the upcoming month or two.

On an unrelated note I should mention about a cool tech product I recently purchased in order for one of my desktop computers on the 2nd floor of the house to obtain access to my Internet connection.  While wireless was indeed an option I chose instead to go with an Ethernet over Power product from Netgear.  These items have been on the market for a while however many people aren’t quite aware this technology exists.  I chose to go this route because I’m a super try everything nerd.  The concept is quite simple – why not utilize your existing in house electrical lines / outlets as a way to connect computers together or to your home router?   Just plug in the first  adaptor into an outlet around  where the computer resides you are hoping to get on the Internet.  Plug an Ethernet cable from the unit to the computer.  Take the second unit and plug it into an outlet around the location of your home router/modem running an Ethernet cable from the new adaptor to an open port on the back of the router.  If your router or modem has no additional ports you will require the use of a small switch.  Depending on the distance and quality of the cable you should be able to achieve excellent results with speeds above 80Mbps.  Although my tests found that both Netgear adaptors could be placed into a surge protector and communicate, more stable results were obtained when the units were plugged directly into the wall outlets.   The units I purchased were the Netgear Powerline AV 200 ones pictured below.  **Make sure you purchase a kit..You need two physical boxes**.  I found a great deal for re-certified units on NewEgg for about $30 / piece.

Walkway Complete – More House Updates

The new walkway is installed after several issues which I am happy to say The Groundskeeper resolved for me.  The main issues were with the 2 foot wide walkway leading from the driveway and the point at which is intersects with the wider 3 foot path leading from the street.  Now it’s just a case of trying to get some grass seed to take in preparation for winter.  I need to do some additional landscaping along the corner of the house but that will probably not be done until the nicer weather hits.

New Walkway Going In – More House Updates

The Groundskeeper, Inc. came to my place this morning to begin the project of ripping out the concrete walkway and replacing it with pavers. (Previous Post: Additionally, they will be pulling out the railing and covering the concrete stoop in front of the doorway with a grouted together slate. Here are a few pics from this morning of the work.

A New Paver Walkway Will Be Installed

Filed Under (House) by admin on 07-10-2010

I realize I haven’t posted for quite some time.  Kinda took a break from posting a lot. Always remember to check the new “Most Recent Updates!” section on the right column.  Sometimes I make updates in different sections that don’t necessarily get noticed.  This “Most Recent Updates!” Section automatically lists any content update that takes place throughout the site.  Ok back to the post….  I figured why not make my first post in a while about the house again.  I have decided to do something about the two portions of walkway that lead up to my front doory.  Currently, they are concrete slabs which have over time succumb to the environment developing large cracks.

I have decided to have all the concrete removed and replaced with stone pavers which should look very nice.  Additionally, the concrete slab which I painted not too long ago in front of the front door will be covered with slate and grouted into place.  The two existing railings will be removed as well.  I will eventually do some additional landscaping in the front of the house to make things look even nicer but little by little.

My sister recently had pavers of the same kind I will be going with installed.    I have gone with a company called The Groundskeeper which is based out of Aston, PA for the install.  Installation could take between 1-2 days to complete.

    Quick Update…Fence Stained..More House Updates

Haven’t posted much in a while so I figured why not post a couple more pics of the fence with the sealer I painted onto it. I purchased a 5 Gallon bucket of Behr Transparent Waterproofing Wood Finish.  I applied a couple of coats the front and back of the fence.  If I had my time back I would have sprayed the finish on instead of painting it on.  Waaaayyy too much work.  I was a dumby.  Anyhow, it does look a lot better and you can tell that the wood has darkened just a slight bit.
